If your employer cuts your hours, can you file unemployment?

I work 40 to 45 hours but my boss told me that he was going to cut my hours to 27 a week. Will I be able to file for unemployment?

    The above people are incorrect.

You may be able to receive partial unemployment compensation if your work hours are cut back because of a lack of work. At your job, you can earn up to 40% of your weekly unemployment compensation amount without losing any unemployment benefits. Anything you earn over this amount is deducted from your weekly check.

No, the same thing just happened to me (my boss cut my hours - not to mention the hours of every employee in the company).

You can't file for unemployment, so I suggest you look for another job that provides more hours.

You can only file for unemployment if you no longer are needed at the job at all. at least you have some hours. fair word of warning though start looking for another job because your paycheck is going to be dramaticlly lower and also major corporations tend to lessen hours to get someone to quit. if its not a major cororation ask your boss why the hours are being lowerd...hope this helps

most of the people above are morons .its called Partial unemployment for a reason meaning you are partially unemployed you need to go to your supervisor and request request documented proof of your bellow full time hours then take it to your unemployment office.

No because you are still working, plus unemployment can be denied by your employer. Just look for another job.

No. Unemployment is for people without a job. Your only option is to get a second job.

    Best of luck to you.

contact your local unemployment office bout filing a partial claim for benefits. they will deduct you pay from this partial rate. you may still be earning too much, but it is worth checking into.

The only operable question is: Are you unemployed?

No, because you are still employed, unless you'd like to quit.
