The term tsunami comes from the Japanese language meaning harbour ("tsu", 津) and wave ("nami", 波).

Japanese. It is written 津波 or 津浪ã
津(tsu) means "port" or "harbor", and 波 or 浪 (nami) meas "wave". I.e. "harbor wave". An understatement don't you think?
