Ignorant man desperately needs help!?

I need two words to describe areas in the house (we are selling and need to advertise). One-the area in front of a fireplace on the floor (not the hearth). The carpet was burned by embers, so I replaced that portion with stone tiles. Is there a special name for the floor in front of a fireplace?

And the second- we have a large 2-person jacuzzi tub. The tub is not sunken, but surrounding it is a raised area (raised to the level of the top of the tub), tiled in shiny indigo. It a place to sit while drying off, or sit and talk to someone in the tub...it makes the tub look sunken, since this raised area is about 3-4 feet out from the tub. Is there a special name for this raised and tiled area?

Thank you so much if you can help- Besides the points, I'll be more than happy to answer any question you have on medical or scientific matters!

Update:

A Dais!!! I think that'll work! And from a man no less-very impressive

Update 2:

A Roman Bath! That sounds even better-I'm amazed at this site everytime I use it!

Update 3:

HA! Not a rich doctor-We're house-poor, which is why we're selling it. If it makes you feel any better, we have to wait for movies to come out on DVD cause we can't afford the admission ticket!

Update 4:

Thank you Jewel-with all my education, I don't even know where to go to find this! Tams-that sounds like a great description-do you do this for a living?

Update 5:

I answered yours, kbenji-hope it helped

Update 6:

I agree Tams-we bought this very expensive house 2 years ago specifically to wait for the rise in house prices to make some money-We will, but in the meantime it's drained us in mortgage costs.

I don't think there is a special name for the area surrounding the fireplace though it could be wrong...a nice description might read: "Lovely stone tile work surround fireplace" or "Beautiful stonework edge extends from fireplace providing romantic seating." And "tiled decking surround large jacuzzi" or "tiled platform" a nice description can raise interest in a home...it helps buyers visualize the home when searching listings and visualize themselves in it.

No...I am housing hunting and certain phrases catch my eye...I'm a college student so I can't afford movies either, but right now it is actually cheaper to pay a mortgage on a small house in my county than to rent an apartment...crazy, but true!

That's horrible...and with student loans as well, I do feel for doctors, I know it's not easy...

The area surrounding the tub, would be called a tub deck or tub surround. Express the size of it how ever you feel. Expansive tub deck...ect.

As far as the stone on the floor at the fire place. there's really no special name for it that I know of. It's possible you still could refer to it as a lowered hearth area. If you're still living in your house, to make sure it doesnt seem out of place and that it's meant to be there, my suggestion, if you already don't do this, would be to let the fireplace tools sit on that part along with a little "wood" holder. That way, it'll appear as if it was put there for that particular purpose and to allow someone to still be able to sit on the raised hearth with their back towards the fire. You know how it is.

First you assert "2 guys" then you definately say "homosexual couple". Why do you count on if 2 guys are elevating a youngster then they're homosexual? Talk approximately making assumptions. Try looking a few episodes of "My Two Dads". No I wasn't. I used to be looking to exhibit you that you simply don't seem to be immune from lack of knowledge or stupidity. You even exhibit it to your rebuke to me. Anyone can see that the conventional loved ones of historic hasn't existed for many years. So it hasn't been mother, dad and the children that make up a loved ones unit and humans understand that. They additionally understand that any grouping of humans which might be near-knit may also be and most often are viewed to be loved ones at the present time. So you appearing like 2 guys coming in combination to elevate a youngster makes them a homosexual couple is ignorant, and even appearing like humans might count on they have been a homosexual couple is ignorant. And my function used to be that anything works is what concerns, however your anger and self-righteous angle on this query continues you from on the grounds that. And by means of the thumbs downs it appears there are others such as you on this admire. Why do not you check out coming near a area from a non-emotional point of view? If you desire to make a logical and fair factor then process it with common sense and motive and keep on factor. Stop going off on an emotional tangent. It does not support make your factor and truthfully works to damage it.

I would call that area around the hearth - an extended hearth (sounds fancy!)

Technically - the tub is a "deck-mounted tub". And 99% of decks are tiled, but most home buyers just want more descriptive words - so you could say "large, tiled, deck-mounted tub".

Don't think there is a name for the area in front of the hearth.

The Jacuzzi - what about describing it as raised above ground with surrounding tiles (or whatever's there). Do you have to say it's not sunken? Prospective buyers will see it when they visit anyway. I think you should just say Jacuzzi to get them round to view.

The tub might be called a roman bath, but I'm not sure. The fireplace area, I don't know. Apron? Call a decorator and ask.

that area around the fireplace is typically just called the base. as far as the jacuzzi area, I would just say that the tub is enveloped by a tiled staging area.

I've taken a basic course in Interior Design and I couldn't help but notice your question. I think you described pretty well the "areas" you wanted names for. I'm not sure I've encountered names for these spots while I was in school, though. Sorry. But I'll look it up and will definitely get back to you soonest. Hang on.

The second is dais, in an unconventional sort of way.

The first, I would call "living room floor near fireplace." There's no special word for it. You could make one up and get rich!!
