What do you think of the Death Penalty in Texas?

Please back up with facts. I don't want a survey just educated opinions. Please don't just say you're for or against.

    At heart, if it is what the people of Texas want, I am for them making that determination & not for people outside the state making that choice for them.

    That aside, there are a number of reasons to oppose the death penalty:

    - The vast majority of people on Death Row could not afford to hire an attorney & consequently got poor legal representation that could have saved their lives;

    - Homicide rates in states with the death penalty are almost doube that of states that don't have the death penalty;

    - In the past 30 years, over 100 Death Row inmates were found to be innocent upon appeal.

    It's just my opinion, but one innocent person being executed for a crime they did not commit is one too many. I believe the states should do what's best for their own, but on principle I do not support the death penalty where I live.

    I think the death penalty is unfair to thoose who are wrongfully convicted and you never really know the criminal unless you are that person>

    I think for a habitual criminal who has shown that he has no desire to be 'rehabilitated' (I hate that word), and will continue to commit crimes and endanger others,it is a viable option.

    Why should the tax payers keep him alive? He is of no use to society, he has long since ceased to contribute anything of value. Fry him.
