A legal question regarding someone w/ stage 5-6 Alzheimer's?
I have a grandfather with Alzheimer's who was recently put in a nursing home. His nurses say it would be OK if I take him to my home (5 minutes away from his nursing home) for visits. My husband is afraid that if we take him to our home, and anything happens to him (broken ankle, etc.) that his kids would probably sue us, and cause me a lot of mental anguish in the process. They are money-hungry, but-if the home lets me sign him out, and we have homeowners insurance, could they really have a suit against me?

Any legal questions should really be put to an attorney to answer. But my understanding is that you should double check your homeowners policy for coverage, most insurances do cover accidents that occur on your premises. Look into Tort Laws regarding private property also and then you could find out for yourself what kind, if any, liability you may or may not be responsible for in your own state. Also you should check the records of the home where your grandfather is placed to make sure by their policy and the family's that you can take him... Do NOT accept the word of the nurse who may know nothing regarding the policy that may be enforce regarding him personally. She has his best interest at heart in wanting him to have family time., but you should be sure
