It's going to be my daughters first b-day sun.,...?

does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should serve a group of 10-15? I'm thinking maybe deli meat cheese tray, or BBQ. I would like it to be self-serve style. Just having all the food on the table and people picking at it at their own leisure kind of thing. I'm a decent cook, but I don't want to be in the kitchen all day long. SO please...HELP!

Do a deli tray, veggie tray, and fruit tray. It's a party so you don't want to over stuff your guests...gotta leave room for cake and ice cream lol. I did this for my son's first birthday and it went over really well. People got to make their own sandwiches the way they like it, and the fruits and veggies gave a refreshing side dish. If it's an evening party, then go with a BBQ set up. Serve easy side dishes like potato salad, pasta salads, and macaroni salad. They're things you can make the day before so you leave the day of the party open to other things, and spending the time with your daughter.

Going with the self-serve style, you could have a taco/burrito tray. Set out the shells and tortillas, and then have the meat and toppings in individual bowls so that people can assemble their own.

If you're serving any kind of meat, keep an eye on the temperature, and don't leave cooked meat sitting out too long. You don't want anyone to leave the party with the party favor known as "food poisoning."

To be honest, unless your child is extremely socially withdrawn or has extreme emotional distress with new situations and adapting, I would enroll her. You know her better that anyone else. Is her social skills enough so that she doesn't need to be coddled by the teacher? I would enroll her, expain to her the situation that she is growing an needs to be in school, be there, tell her you will be back for her later in the day and leave. Come back at the same time every day to ensure consistency and trust. Also, you say that the teachers are wonderful? So you feel comforted knowing that she is being taken care of? I think that if are in for some work, some hand holding and a lot of communication between your child and the teacher, then go for it. I fully support this. However, know that it is not an easy journey, it never is, wether you hold her back or not. I personally would put her in with the 5 year olds and watch her grow. Be there for her and she will thrive. Good Luck and I hope that this helps!

my oldest is 5, we have done subs with lunch meat, cheese etc and the party goers make their own sandwiches or you can make them (all differ kinds) and spread them out nice on a tray with ice underneath. If you want hot food then soft tacos are easy too and do it the same way except put taco meat in a crock pot. Almost every party should have a cheese/sausage tray, fruit tray (in summer) and a dip such as taco dip. Also have grandparents etc bring their fav side dish! ALWAYS no matter what you have serve hotdogs/mac n cheese for the little ones if you make something not kid friendly!

Your ideas sound just fine. I like the deli meat/cheese tray idea and maybe a fruit tray with dip. Maybe a nice vegetable pizza or salad or potato salad. Plus a cake--half white and half chocolate. Iced tea, soda and water.

Grilling out is also I great idea, but it is harder work, if you do not have help. So do what is easiest for you.

I hope you all have a great day!

10-15 children around ONE year of age -- go for the cute and colorful, rather than the gourmet. Vegetables & fruits cut into funny shapes. If you make a cake that is colorful and in some shape that attracts the kids (a cartoon figure or an animal) - it will be a much bigger hit than the meal anyway. serve a simple, colorful meal; and put your energy into the cake. (beyond the colorful, most kids go for hot dogs pretty well - mineature hot dogs will go over even better, and there will be less waiste).

Do the barbecue and a bakery birthday cake. You can make salads (pasta, potato, etc.) the morning of the party and you can throw some salt potatoes in the crock pot. You can grill the meat while the guests are there and just use sturdy but cute paper or foam plates and plastic cups. Just keep plenty of ice and soda on hand.

Since everyone else has already given you so many wonderful food tips, here is something I think parents should do for the first party. Start now on teaching your little one how to blow out the candle. I started a couple weeks before his birthday with my son practicing on a candle and when we sang the song, he blew it out perfectly. And it's much more gratifying than standing there telling the birthday kid to blow and they give you the "huh" look! And you won't be embarrassed either. I'm sure things'll go great.

Deli selects for sandwiches are a good idea.

I also like chips and dip to go with that. My fave is guacamole.

An easy and healthy choice to go with your deli idea is cut up veggies and ranch dip. Who doesn't like ranch dip? Not many... Try cutting up some fresh carrots, celery, etc. Easy stuff for finger foods and dipping. If you want to get creative try strips of bell peppers, green, yellow, red... it adds some color and is a great source of Vitamin C. One bell pepper has as much vitamin C as five oranges.

    Have fun at your party!

you should have barbeque's, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggies and fruits. just typical American food that most people enjoy!Don't forget her favorite type of cake! but if she likes chocolate u might wanna get a small other kind of cake for the people who dont like her favorite type of cake.
