Is anyone else insulted by these commercials?
Commercials in general are insulting to my intelligence. But today I am targeting car insurance commercials specifically. These commercials by Geico, Progressive and AIG talk about how much money you can save, but say nothing about the services they provide. The commercials by Allstate and State Farm, on the other hand, talk about only their services (which is far more important by my reckoning). The worst one is the one by Geico that says "People trust advertising icons" as if we are so stupid that we believe anything a cartoon character tells us. Who else is insulted by that?

The truth is its true, if there is an advertising icon that you remember it will be the first thing you think of when you go for the service or product. I checked out geiko, btw, and it was not cheaper than the insurance that I have now.
Another point being that if most people hear that something is cheaper than what they have currently they will most likely check it out further. Geiko's website is comprehensive and tells you what services they offer, but if they put that into a commercial they wouldn't have enough time to stress to you how much cheaper they are than the other insurance companies in your area.

most all commercials insult our inteligence, some worse than others . the ones i hate are Ed McMahon & Alex Trabec , with all there money, trying to make an extra buck hocking third rate life insurance to the elderly. Example "ONLY $9.95 per unit per month". ya know what a unit is? it $1000.00. that would mean in order to have enough for a proper burial you would have to purchase at least 10 units. most elderly people dont have an extra $100.00 a month , so after 2or 3 months they cant make the payment and they get automatically canceled and lose there money. Ed & alex know this so I say "shame on you Ed & Alex!

I am not insulted at all. I think the commercials are entertaining and take it at that. When I am ready to buy insurance I will go to whoever has the best services for the best price. Until then I intend to just enjoy watching and laughing at the commercials.

Well I would be offended except for the fact that I figured out the trick to commercials I don't like. If I'm not pleased with what I see, I can just TURN OFF THE DAMN TV!!!!!! Why would you be offended by something you have total control over? Why not change the channel or stop watching TV? Is TV that important to you that you can't just turn it off and walk away when you see something that offends you? You can not be that lazy. Just stop watching.

I hear you but most people are not fooled by this.
Most people understand that there is very little truth in advertising.
Get yourself a DVR recorder and fast forward right through those commercials like me.

They are stupid ads and they intend to insult, and yet also entertain. You and I get the last laugh, though, b/c we vote with our wallets, right?
