I'm joining the army. Could someone give me their thoughts on being an aviation operations specialist?

One thing make sure the MOS you pick can easily translate to a job in the civilian life. Like MPs usually become police officers or security guards. Gas handlers in the Army become civilian Gas Handlers. So pick an MOS that if you were to get out of the military you would not mind doing it as a civilian. I am not exactly sure what that is, but sounds like it would be watching planes fly and making sure they will not crash. Aviation Operations Specialist.

I am a 15P Aviation Operations Specialist. If you choose this job your main focus will be on tracking aircraft, coordinating flights with the control tower, tracking pilots flight hours, basically record keeping of the birds and the pilots.

During field training and war you will be working mostly in a Tactical Operations Center (TOC) doing various jobs including. Radio Operator, working with maps on the Command and Control PC (C2PC), tracking missions being flown, dispatching quick reaction force aircraft, dispatching Downed AirCraft Recovery Teams (DART) and work with key planners of Aviation Missions. ( Officers will make the command choices though )

There is a possiblity of danger, but not as much as with a job like an infantryman, tanker and other combat arms jobs. However you maybe called upon to do presense patrols in your area of operations on occasions, as well as pulling security for convoys, traffic control point search areas, and entrance control point search areas.

The Cons of the MOS

Expect to do lots of clean up work in both garison, field, and war.

As an enlisted person it is part of your job to help with the set up, cleanup, and upkeep of the TOC. Sometimes it can be frustrating.

There are more things both good and bad about the job however this should give you an overview of what the job is.

Congratulations on choosing to join the military. Since you say that you are planning to make a career out of the military, make sure you choose an MOS with a high rate of promotion, and a good re-enlistment bonus. You can check these out on military.com. You might want to consider going into Military Intelligence, even if you don't make a career out of it, you will certainly be in high demand upon separation.

I suggest joining the Navy or Air Force. You can do that job there, too. If you scored higher than 80 on the asvab, you're probably a thinker, and thinkers don't do too well in the army. I am one.

15P? it truly is really a pastime the position you sit down contained in the operations center of the airfield or airbase and communicate on the radio and music who's contained in the air. it truly is this style of crappy pastime colorblind human beings can do it.
