Street Legal Dirt Bikes?
I want to purchase a 125 and a 250 (prox cc's) to trail ride. They need to be street legal so that we can ride them to the trail head. What options are there?
They used to be called Enduros, now Dual Sport. But all of the street legal options seem to be in the 400cc range. I just want a 250 for me and a 125 for my wife to play on.

After riding my Husky TE 510 for a few months now I would say go and get yourself the 250 model, you won't be disappointed. Or just stick with the DR, it's probably the best bang for your buck. I just remembered reading an article in rider mag about the new KLX 250, they had nothing bad to say about it except that it is not Ca. legal. If you're not in Ca that would probably be the number one choice.

Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha all have the dual-purpose bikes you are looking for. The question is: New or Used? Suzuki has the DR series that used to include a 250 and 350cc. The DR350 could be bought from the factory road ready. I believe you may want to look into a Yamaha XT225, which comes straight from the factory street legal. Check out www.yamaha-motor.com. Other than that, you may have to buy a used bike with mirrors and a headlight and legalize it by adding on the extras. Your local DMV can tell you what to do to make it street legal.

Check with your State DMV regulations on their website.
Also the rider should have a motorcycle riding endorsement on his/her license and proof of insurance meeting the legal minimal requirements for the State in which that rider resides.

HONDA.COM or SUZUKI.COM or YAMAHA.COM
It ain't gonna be a problem. Then go to biketrader.com or auto trader.com or used motorcyles in the search engine. Click on your area and start looking. I would recommend staying with a Honda, even though I love my Yamahas. Goooood luck!
