What do you think of Alfa Romeo's return to the U.S.?

Question

In a recent press release, Alfa Romeo announced that it would return to the U.S. market for the 2008 model year.

For all you Alfa Romeo lovers out there, how do you feel about this?  Do you think U.S. production will be delayed again, even with the official announcement from the factory?

And what of the possibility that, even if they do return, Alfa will not import their 8C Competizione supercar?

Alfa Romeo is the only car brand that can slam a 250 hp DOHC V6 in a front wheel drive hatchback 4 door platform and make it work. If i werent an Audi fan i would be an Alfa fan. i cant wait till they come to the United States

I think Alfa will have a trying time for the first two years. You have to understand that not many people know what they are in America anymore. If they keep a limited number of cars to be sold in the U.S. like 10,000 to 20,000 the first year they may see the demand they would like to. There are many enthusiasts in the U.S. for the Alfa, the Competizione SuperCar will be available only if they can make it to U.S. regulations. There is no way Alfa would not want to become one of the elite italian supercar manufacturers selling in the U.S.

I'm psyched about -- Alfa Romeo is a great car brand with tons of history. 

From what I've read, experts are predicting that they'll enter the market with a very high-end model in the Aston Martin / Maserati price range, so we probably won't see a lot of them on the road.

I would love to see them update the Spider convertible.

A guy i know was at the international auto show and talked to the Alfa representative.  He inquired as to if they will be comming to the US as planned, and the guy gave him a funny look and said that they don't have any immediate plans, and walked off to the VIP Room.   That said they have said as in other answers that they plan to start with a price point between Maserati and Ferrari.  The older cars while a labor of love are no Maserati or Ferrari, (I have all three), they will have to come down to earth before i look at one.

F'in cool man! They need to come back again as a value alternative to Ferrari/Maserati. (Lets not even talk about Lamborghini); I read the Euro-rags, and per them, the quality issues of the past are basically a non-issue.

the re entered the Australian market a few years back, and they didn't come in with a high end super-car range, although they are in the luxury car end of things. They are not outrageously expensive but they are not the best value cars on the market either. I love them but I can't see myself buying a new one. I have a GTV at the moment, and its typically troublesome.
