Pacifier or bottle something for little on to suck on when departing and arrival, as well as gum for the 6 year old, change in pressure can drive some kids nuts and then everybody is cranky. Keeping 6 year old busy is bad enough on the ground but in a confined area jeshhh...game boy with ear phones, coloring book, maze book, do you have a portable DVD player? Also good for you and them is take a walk around the plane when possible. Gets the blood flowing in your legs and keeps them occupied as well.

    Good luck!

I flew with a six year old just last year. Buy or create small paper games like dots, tic tac toe, simple crossword puzzles or word searches. I purchased several small, inexpensive new toys to keep him busy. As he would get bored I would pull a new one out. Snacks are also very important. Let him/her pick several small snacks that they really enjoy. I had mine carry his own little backpack. He was responsible for keeping an eye on it and making sure that it was with him at all times. He seemed to enjoy having his own little luggage. Bring coloring books and crayons/markers, etc. I know it seems like a lot to carry, but anything to keep them busy!

Also make sure that you explain to the six year old about the screening procedures at the airport. They can be scared by it if they aren't aware. Warn him/her that they may need to take their shoes off as well. If they carry a little buddy like a teddy bear or stuffed animal that may need to go through the xray machine, make sure he/she knows or else they will freak out.

On take off and landing have suckers or gum handy so that the ear popping doesn't get to him/her.

Another tip is to make sure you are in the aisle seat. Those carts and people walking by are not safe for the little ones. It will also keep them from being able to escape without you realizing.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you!

I don't think you should allow your boys to wear Goodnites on the trip, they are too old and that promotes bad habits. Food. Cannot stress this enough. Bring a cooler of water (not sugary juice or soda) and some paper cups. Pack another cooler with healthy foods like fruits and bring along some chips or snack packs of cookies as well. DVDs are soo important for your sanity on long road trips. It keeps the kids quiet and occupied for a few hours and you don't have to listen to them complain. Cards and toys are a good idea always. If your kids like to color, buy some posters or coloring books. If they are at the stage where they can read on their own, buy some comic books or little chapter books they can read. You could also buy/bring CDs of Chirstmas songs to enjoy on the way. Have fun and Merry Christmas!

Give the six year old gum to chew during takeoff and landing - it helps with the ear popping. Have lots of colouring books and crayons, and other activities s/he is interested in. Make sure to bring some of his or her fave snacks in case the flight doesn't have anything yummy on the menu. Always have water handy, and don't be afraid to ask the flight steward to take your child to the bathroom - they should be happy to help out.

As for baby, you NEED to check with your doctor on this, but I know some moms who give their babies a single dose of Infant's Benadryl about half an hour before takeoff. The Bendryl knocks them out (Infant Gravol will do the same thing, and settle their tummy). However, as with all medications :CHECK WITH DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST BEFORE GIVING. (Sorry, just wanted to make sure you saw that part). GL!

  • Try getting one of thoes Leepads for the 6 year old, My daughter is 5 and LOVES' hers. They have all kinds of books that go with them and they are pretty affordable.

And as for feeding, I would try to feed the child best as I could just before we got onto the plane, but if I still had to feed it later, I would just feed him as I did at home...I mean if your seatbelt light is on, just turn and feed him in his carseat...-smiles-

Take along puzzles for him to do. Also, take some coloring books for him to color in and some regular paper so you can make up activities as you go (i.e. make an easy crossword puzzle for him to do or a wordsearch). Take some regular books to for him to read.

Not sure what to suggest for feeding because I'm not sure what the question is exactly..

Take lots of candy and gum to ease the pain. Kids can adapt to anything you'll proably be surprised at how well they do. If they act up, remember they are kids and treat them as such.
