What's the quickest way to defrost a freezer?

When I was a kid, my mom had this special lamp that was made for defrosting the freezer quickly... sadly I don't have this or a "frost free" freezer. Can anyone share some tips?

Thanks

Turn off the frig & open the door. Place a pan of hot water in the freezer & change frequently.

Using a blow dryer helps too. DONOT put blow dryer in freezer.

The following works best for upright freezers.

Turn the temperature control to off.

    Empty the freezer.

You'll need an electric kettle & a heat proof tube to

direct the steam. (I use a section of my vacuum wand

& an oven mitt but maybe you can come up with something

    better. )

The kitchen will get steamy so turn the fan on or open a

    window.

My frig has a manual freezer. The drawer underneath

the freezer collects the water & chunks of ice.

    Emty it often

I use a plastic spatula to poke & scrape.

It doesn't take long & you don't need to empty the frig.

Dry everything with a towel. Put food back in the freezer.

    Reset the temperature.

    Best Way To Defrost Freezer

  • 2 decades ago

I put off defrosting my upright deep freeze to long one time and one Day I opened the door and it looked like a blizzard went on in there. Big mistake... It was taking me forever to defrost that thing...So I decided to use my hair blow dryer and it took me no time at all. I kept a bath towel at the bottom to catch all the ice and water with a small wash tub outside the door so I could flip the ice into it and ring out my wet towel. This is the quickest way I found to do it. I did learn a lesson that Day... Never ignore the freezer when it starts to need defrosting...

You can still buy a gadget to defrost the Freezer.

You did not say if its a chest freezer , upright or a combo with a Fridge- all will need the same- Warm air- do not use hot water- you will have a big mess on your hands- A hair dryer is best way to improvise. If there is a Pan beneath the freezer be sure to empty it from time to time.

In my experience, the quickest way to defrost a freezer is go on holidays for at least 2 weeks (the electricity turned off and the rest is history).... lol

I find hot water in a bucket, lots of towels and a broad plastic scraper works well. Don't use a metal paint scraper- you could damage the fridge.

I suspect you could make a special lamp through finding the right bulb- incubation lamps for lizards or snake might work...

    Good luck!

You must unplug the freezer and place several pots of very hot water inside the freezer. Make sure they don't melt the plastic or lining of the freezer. Never put anything electric in or you could become electrocuted.

The only thing I can think of is to unplug it, leave the door open and use a hair dryer or hot water. If the ice lumps are really big, get a hammer and screwdriver and pound them out.

unplug it, open the door , get a portable fan and blow the air inside through the door ... to top it all of get a hair dryer and use it on hot air mode ... or get any lamp put a 200watt bulb on it .. light it and place it inside ... max 3 hours ... your freezer is defrosted !!!

Put electric frying pan in freezer, and boil water in it keeping lid closed on freezer...(make sure pan doesnt boil dry)

place pots of boiling water in freezer, close the lid , replace boiling water when. water cools down, continue doing this till freezer is defrosted..
