Who remembers little packages of a black granular substance that was found at the bottom of potato chip bags?

I believe there may have been a caution on it not to eat. What was the purpose of that pack of stuff?

It was used as a "desiccant" to absorb moisture. If it was black, it might have been charcoal based, but now they use a type of Silica gel.

I don't recall ever seeing that. I do, however, remember the days when there was a little packet of hot sauce in the bottom of the chips bag! That was some wonderful stuff. I remember it from my childhood in Indiana, Ohio, and New York. Wonder if it's still being sold somewhere like that.....hmmm......
