How do I accesss a local sex offender registry? So many links available, but none very helpful.?

I have used Yahoo search engine to try and find local sex offenders in my area, to no avail. I know I can probably get this information by going to my local law enforcement station, but why not the internet? Any help please would be appreciated. I`ve heard from neighbors that a few live locally, and I am trying to find out how close to my home they are as I have an 11 yr old, who I would like to warn.

While you are warning your 11 year old, please make sure you add more than just the false sense of security that the registry provides. Teach your child about good touch/bad touch. Teach them to tell if ANYONE touches him/her. The reoffense rate for sex offenders is 3.5% reconviction. Sadly though, 90 to 95% of child molestations occur, by another child, a relative, a close friend, a babysitter, a teacher, a coach, etc. Don't just use the registry. Teach your children well.

No. Our local police department is constantly updating a sex offender registry and notifies us. If the offender lives somewhere in our neighborhood, they send us a 5" x 7" card with all the latest information and a photograph. That way, we not only know about him/her, but what the person looks like. And yes, there are females as well as males.

You can check on the state police web site. Then scroll down and see if what your looking for is there. I don't know where you live but in Pa. its psp.state.us. It might be under Megan's law too. You be surprised at what you find out.

    Good luck!

I heard about this website on the news.

You can get photos of the offenders as well to warn your child.
