A song title and group?

My son and I are trying to find the official title and group who sings the song with the lyrics..."Oh black sally...Oh black sally." It is a rock group and a great song. Would love to get it if we could find out the real name and the artist. Thanks!!

"Black Betty," originally written and recorded in 1935 by Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter was covered in a rockin' electrified version by RAM JAM.

I got Ram Jam's "Golden Classics" release on CD and I love it. The entire album is awesome. A very underrated band.

Currently, Amazon.com has the 20 track CD "The Very Best of Ram Jam" starting at $7.19, second hand. Well worth it.

Compliment your son on his taste for me.

You may be asking about a song that came out in the 70s called "Black Betty". Here are the lyrics:

    Black Betty

    By: Ram Jam

    (Huddie Ledbetter)

    1977

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

Black Betty had a child (Bam-ba-Lam)

The damn thing gone wild (Bam-ba-Lam)

She said, "I'm worryin' outta mind" (Bam-ba-Lam)

The damn thing gone blind (Bam-ba-Lam)

I said Oh, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Oh, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)

You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)

    She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)

    And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    She's from Birmingham (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Way down in Alabam' (Bam-ba-Lam)

Well, she's shakin' that thing (Bam-ba-Lam)

Boy, she makes me sing (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam)

    Whoa, Black Betty BAM-BA-LAM

    ANDY RATING:

Bubblegum's last gasp was this heavy-medal blues cover of an old Leadbelly song. It was big when it came out and, strangely, it never attained the lasting anthem appeal of a Rock And Roll Part 2 by Gary Glitter or We Are The Champions by Queen.

    NOTES:

. . . lead guitarist Bill Bartlett performed the same duties for The Lemon Pipers . . . produced by Jeff Katz and Jerry Kasenetz . . . other than these two gum connections, why is this song considered Bubblegum? The Indian drum beat and the gong, silly . . . the NAACP and other groups called for a boycott of the song . . . according to Bartlett in Wayne Jancik's book The Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders, "[They say that] 'Black Betty' is considered an insult to black womanhood, but that's a load of hogwash. Leadbelly [Huddie Ledbetter] was black, and he wrote all the lyrics. No blacks that I've talked to find the song offensive" . . .
