Peta, for or against it?

I think they're completely over the top...

I don't believe in cruelty to animals either but if I had to come up with only ONE reason to be against PETA it would be that I DO believe that we should be able to use animals in finding a cure or treatment for such horrific diseases such as AIDS and cancer.

Im neither for nor against peta. There always needs to be a check and balance system, whether its extremist or not it provides a method to keep things in check. I would recommend supporting a local adoption agency or becomming a foster mom for a dog or cat until they are placed in a loving home, maybe donate time to a agency whether your local humane center or a independant adoption agency to help take care of the animals. these things will be more of a impact that "joining Peta" because you will know what is being done, and you will have the joy of knowing you helped a life.

People for the ethical treatment of animals.........yeah, right. No, I don't believe in their cause. First, if the animal is used as food, you should make use of all the parts possible for goods. I do not believe inslaying animals just for their fur personally, but PETA has a much larger agenda. Here is their mission statement.

Ok, so if you want to be a true PETA person don't ever use anything made of leather, no more wool sweaters, never eat another piece of meat, or kill rodents when they infest your house. Wrong answer, conservation is the answer. God put the animals here to provide for us, and us for them. The world is a food chain, and fortunatly for us, we sit at the top.

I am a vegetarian and have been since i was 12 and I hate to see animals hurt or killed but i think peta goes way overboard on certain things. I understand they are trying to help the animals but they would recive more support if they didnt make some of the comments they did. I dont think they are bad because their basic premise is to help but i just dont agree with everything. I would not stop being your friend or liking yopu just for joining everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personally do like when they throw paint on some of the people.

Actually HSUS is as bad or worse than PeTA. They're linked BIG TIME. The HSUS is no longer a humane welfare organization - they are animal rights the same as peta. They attend and support animal rights functions. There is no coincidence they support the same causes and have the same views. The head guy @ HSUS, Wayne Pacelle, has also had a past with PeTA and others:

One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.

This is the guy heading up HSUS! If you still believe they are not animal rights and as big or bigger threat than PeTA you're sadly mistaken.

At the end of 2003, the nonprofit HSUS declared assets totaling over $113 million, including almost $16 million in cash and over $80 million invested in securities. It pays over $11.8 million in annual salaries, and another $3 million in employee benefits and pension contributions. When HSUS merged with the Fund For Animals in 2004, the group announced that its 2005 operating budget would be $95 million.

Make no doubt about it they are for all practical purposes one and the same.

The United States government considers PETA domestic terrorists. I personally have known a few members over the years and have found them to be the biggest hypocrites that I have ever met. If you want to help animals donate some time at you local animal shelter.

against it. They are more interested in control and donations than animals. They've killed thousands of animals themselves and that's justified. They have their own agenda and when things pertain to THEM then principles go by the wayside. Find something else to contribute your money to. PeTA profits more from animal exploitation than any number of those they target and run smear campaigns again. Take a look at their IRS forms. And note that they are one of several with "questionable practices" noted at the BBC charity site.

They collect money to "help starving animals" and put pitiful looking pictures - then pay $57,000 to defend a firebomber (isn't that domestic terrorism?). They raise millions of dollars each year. They have raised enough money to spay thousands of dogs and cats - to a figure at $70 each into that $57,000 figure above and see how many that would pay for. ;-)

They use smear campaigns and outright lies or highly twisted information to shock people. They've been called petaphiles for targeting kids - and tell people feeding hamburgers and meat to kids is child abuse. Look very very carefully at what you send money to and what it's REALLY financing. Much of that is public record - as a nonprofit they have to disclose it. Look at the other organizations they've contributed money to and what THEY do. Follow the trail where the money goes. And don't forget the fancy cars and multiple houses - expensive houses - past and present big wigs have.

In my opinion, as a person involved in animal welfare most of my life, PETA is like someone whose heart is in the right place, but goes about it the wrong way. If you are interested in joining an animal welfare group, I would recommend the HSUS (humane society of the US) or the ASPCA. They are much more realistic in their expectations and tend to get a lot more done in the real world. PETA is for sacrificing the safety of humans in place of animals, instead of finding ways for doing both. They also encourage and fund several animal welfare terrorist groups.

Completely and totally again all the lies and BS PETA spreads! They want most COMPLETE animal liberation and for animals to be equal to humans completely. I bet a large portion of people who donate to PETA don't realize that they wouldn't even have pets if PETA had their way!

I like the idea of treating animals fairly, but I don't like a lot of PETA's extremism. Do some research on them before you do anything. I have heard a lot of things about them that suggest they are actually cruel to animals in a lot of things that they do.
