What is the difference between House music and Techno?

I listen to house music A LOT- and

my friend is like "pssh. its just techno."

and I kinda want to give her a written explanation of the differences

    Well these may not be the best definitions but here I go. To me Techno seems more artificial and computerized while House has a more organic feel (using more real instrument sounds, vocals etc). The best way is to listen to a bunch of each genre that should give you an idea of the difference. Tribal House has that percussion/drum sound that makes you think of people pounding on drums in the open around a fire (kinda like those 'tribal' people tend to do). There can be tribal techno by the way, well actually there can be techy house too so basically call it what you want, as long as you can find it in a record store it doesn't matter a whole lot.

    Here's my go at it since I like Trance and House, but not the others...I not an expert but I like the music and once set out to answer this question on my own. House has a lot of really hard beats and a lot of bass Trance is more melodoic and smooth and calming Techno is annoying and hits the same beat like every two seconds through the whole thing Electro is more just like electronic tones that some people think are music. A lot of people classify these things into the same genre but they really aren't even though they are most all created digitally they all sound different.
