Microsoft, the vole?

The Inquirer has been doing this for sometime, http://tinyurl.com/qujdp and I don't get it. Refering to Microsoft as "the vole", "volish", "volehill" and so on. Maybe I'm a little thick as far as the joke is concerned becuase, I just do not get it.

    I dont get it either.

I think I missed the punchline, but I cant figure it out either.

I found this on wikipedia though:

Some techies refer to Microsoft headquarters as 'VoleHill' and Microsoft as 'the Vole.' It has been suggested that the origin of this usage lies in the name of the genus of many North American voles: Microtus. The Inquirer, an online IT oriented magazine, has popularised this usage (see also: VoleWare).

I still think its unfunny though.
