my honda prelude shut off and wont start?
i was driving, and my car just shut off. it didnt sputter and die, it was instant, like flipping a switch. battery voltage good, windows/lights operate. but you know how when you put your key in your cars ignition and turn it to ACC, the dash lights up? mine doesnt. leads me to believe ignition switch went bad. when i put my key in, no lights/sounds/activity on ACC, and when i turn to start, nothing. not even a sound.
its a 92 prelude si, manual. thanks for any and all info.
i did try shaking the key to see if it might make some type of contact inside, but it didnt work.
would my starter go bad while im driving? and then cause my car to shut off the way it did, without even letting the dash lights come on? ill check it out.
as far as radiator level, ill check on that. but when i checked fluids last weekend, the overflow resovoir was almost all the way full, so im pretty sure its still good. but ill check.
i checked all the fuses. im not sure how to check the ignition switch. as soon as i get the car in my garage ill be able to look better, its on the city street and i cant have driver door open while im lookin at dash stuff.
yesterday though, after it happened, windows/sunroof, headlights, signals all worked. today, at first none of it worked, at all. but i messed around with the wiring in steering column and i got signals/lights back on, but no windows/sunroof. i dunno what to do. would faulty charger or alternator cause the ignition switch to do absolutely nothing?

When that happened to my 'lude, my timing belt broke while driving.
If those what those guys suggested doesn't end up being your problem, check the timing belt.
Good luck

smoke wil be petrol vapour very in all likelihood so scent of gasoline is a effect. because we haven't any spark and timing is pleased with out faults yet nonetheless no spark? appears like ignition circuit is being inhibited eg immobiliser or damaged cord. yet with out code we are able to not pencil it truly is so.. a storage is maximum proper guess the following as appears like an electric powered fault in all likelihood with computer in the different case why no codes in any respect? inspite of if sensor failed that is going to generate a fault code yet when computer or wiring to that is defective?

Check your radiator level
I had a civic do this to me and it was down 1/2 gal of antifreeze.
The car was equiped with a shut off when it was low.

check your starter, your charging system has to make a complete circuit, and check your ignition switch, did you ever shake your key and see if it starts.
