Is it possible?

Is it possible to connect my video camera to my laptop and transfer a video? What would I need to do that?

With most digital video cameras a USB cable won't work as it will only transfer video not audio. USB wasn't made to handle both.

A lot of digital cameras require a firewire connection to be able to handle the amount of data being transferred.

You would also need software to handle video editing (or just video viewing in general).
