Is a curly perm a good Idea?

Hi I currently have atypical african hair very curly and tough which I constantly cane row; this works very well for me cause I am constantly in the swimming pool summer and winter. I'm a bit bored of the cane row but I'm in search of a hair style that looks good but would not affect my lifestyle. I would have considered a straight perm but I hear that the chorine from the pool would be very damaging on the hair. Would be interesting to know what u'all think.

Let me help clear this up for you. If you like to wear your hair curly, then a curly perm may be for you. You do not have to get tight curls and contrary to popular belief, they are not greasy. Chlorine is damaging to all hair, all you have to do is put a leave in conditioner on your hair before you go swimming or put on a cap. If you don't want to wear your hair curly all the time, then I recommend a relaxer. But with a Wave Nouveau, you have the option of wearing your hair curly and straight. Just go to a salon to get it done. Do not let someone who doesn't know what they are doing put chemicals in your hair.

A curly perm is just as damaging to hair as relaxing it and therefore there is no difference in the damage that chlorine will do to your hair.

If you are going to chemically treat you hair, pick the one you'd prefer to have, which sounds like it's straight. If you are going into a pool, slather it with Vaseline (which acts like a barrier) and make sure you wash your hair afterwards with once of the specifically designed shampoos to remove chlorine (like After

Swim), before using specialised shampoo & conditioner for afro hair.

As you currently swim with natural hair, the washing tips shouldn't be news to you. If they are, this could be one of the reasons you describe your hair as 'tough'.

Whatever you decide, remember that swimming is unkind to afro hair (I know this - I have natural hair which I tend to just style evry day and I swim quite often too) and it is hard work to keep it in tip top condition when it is exposed to chlorine on a regular basis.

Oh yeah - buy a swimming hat!

    Good luck.

    Hi

I really would not recommend curly perm on african hair:your hair will look too tough and huge(think Beyonce when she had an afro hairstyle).Futhermore it will take longer to style than straight hair so just straighten it,ok.

I have very thick hair so a curly perm isn't a good idea. If I were you, I'd go to a hair dresser

When you applying chemical products on your hair, it do have pros and cons from that and to avoid the cons become worst, you should take some prevention actions as simple as go for hair treatment after "playing" with your hair. It's crucial to help balancing your hair status especially on pH.
