What kind of "creatures" are the Animaniacs?

I know they are the Warner Bros. and Dot but what are they?

Officially, they were "The Warners" or "The Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister."

    Here's the TV.com description:

Warner Bros.' follow-up to Tiny Toon Adventures was a show even nuttier than its predecessor. The two Warner

Brothers—talky Yakko and Liverpool-accented Wakko—and their Warner Sister, Dot ("I'm cute") had supposedly been created

in the 1930's, but their cartoons were too screwball for the general public. The three Warners (all black with long ears, but no

distinguishable species or breed) were locked up in the studio water tower until they escaped in the early 1990's. Yakko, Wakko,

and Dot ran wild around the lot, pursued by studio CEO Thaddeus Plotz, security guard Ralph, studio psychiatrist Dr. Scratchinsniff,

and Scratchinsniff's buxom assistant, Hello Nurse (Who didn't really have to do much pursuing, if you know what I mean. "Hellooooooo,

Nurse!"). The show spat out pop culture references and throwaway visual gags with machine-gun rapidity, entertaining kids and adults

alike. Also popular were the many songs and song parodies that graced the program.

I believe they're supposed to be a cross between a dog and a mouse. At least, that's what the animators claim. Nevertheless, they are the beloved Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister) and we will always hug them, and squeeze them, and pat their little heads!

    These creatures are black dogs.

Those are the facts. While Bill Clinton plays the Sax.

they've got to be dogs, I mean they have a tail, long ears...what else could they be. Of course, according to the old song they sung when somebody asked what they are, they just said, "we're just cute" or something like that...so I don't know

One of the fun things about them was, no one could quite figure out what they were. Yakko was based on Groucho Marx, by the way.

My guess is that they were Gremlins from another dimension
