I have to swim backstroke in a meet, but i am out of shape and it is my worst stroke. Help!?
Summer swimming has started a few weeks ago, but I have only been able to go to THREE practices so far. my coach signed me up to do a 50 m backstroke, but i am SO out of shape and i need work on my technique and flip-turns for this stroke. It is tomorrow morning and there is no more opportunities to ask the coach for help. Any advice????? Any foods loaded w/ carbohydrates and/or minerals to give me energy??

Yea, hope and pray. Food won't do anything special for you. You should have practiced more. Now you get to see the results of not doing what you need to do to complete a goal.

I LOVE BACKSTROKE! It is my favorite stroke because I can breathe through the whole thing. It is a stroke that takes work to fix up, and flip-turns are the toughest because usually people without practice get choked up on it. What I would do if i was in your situation is go to the nearest pool and just practice small sets. Go with a friend so that you aren't lonely and to not feel bummed out. You have to have confidence. Work on fast strokes and turns and push-offs from the wall and definately kicking. I have a meet on sunday too, and it is at a 50-meter pool. I'm sure you'll do fine, just make sure you practice your flip-turns. BuT, do not work yourself out too hard, the worst thing would be to have to swim it in a sore body. GOOD LUCK!
PS Pasta is a great carb food

You should get your count on your stroke, and (depending how fast you are) turn over 1 stroke or 2 before you reach the end, and flip and kick off. also, when you are coming in, you need to pull in extra force. Don't slow down at all! Also, you should eat spaghetti the night before because it burns slower so you have more energy. Good Luck!

eat spagettii ( however you spell it) the night before, and eat a LIGHT breakfast before you swim with lots of water. 50m isnt to bad, just remember pinkies in first to pull the water underneath you, head back, and hips up. and do a quick flip turn, like a snap. take one less stroke than your normal stroke count and flip over to your front then FLIP FAST!!
