Christians, do you believe that Jews have horns and drink the blood of unbaptized children?

Presumably not.

However, throughout history these stories about Jews were regarded as facts. Now you know better and it seems ridiculous that people ever believed such lies, right?

So why, even with a history of buying into patently false misinformation about other beliefs do I continue to see misconceptions about atheists related as if they were true?

"Atheists are sad, atheists are boring, atheists are angry, atheists can't love, atheism is the same thing as hedonism, atheists lie, atheists have no concept of morality..."

It's not quite the same as thinking we have horns, but it is the same basic idea.

From where does this flood of misinformation stem? Why does it seem like our constant rebuttals to these falsehoods fall on deaf ears?

What would it take for you to see that we are people and not so dissimilar from you?

Update:

It's nice to see that around half of you are actually reading the question.

Update 2:

MornGloryHM: Hidden agenda? I would assume that there would have to be some subterfuge involved in a "hidden agenda." I just want the faithful to recognize that we are people just like them. I'm quite open about that.

I don't know, I suppose if the athiests didn't spend so much time hanging out in the religious section, when they clearly don't believe in religion, that would be a start. I mean really, if you don't come here just to put us down, why are you here? Are you wanting to be convinced, or simply like to harrass christians? Those are the only two options I can figure for so many athiests to be hanging out in the religious section. If you guys have a legitimate reason, I'd sure love to hear it.

No. I don't understand why people believed that in the olden days. I think it is very sad. Jesus was a Jew, so if people were anti Semitic they were hurting him when they hurt his people.

I am Christian and I have many wonderful friends who are atheists, I love them and they are great. Two of my most special friends are atheists. We have known each other since we were small children, for years and years. We are always there for each other and support each other no matter what. I would love for them to share the same, what God has given me is so beautiful and precious, but they know I am Christian, and the way they live is their choice. I don't want to force anything on them.

I am sorry you feel Christians feel that way about atheists. It is easy to say things without realising that hurt they cause other people. As a Christian, I would like to say sorry on behalf of Christians that you have been hurt like that.

Atheists are just people as far as I'm concerned. People come in all shapes and sizes, some nice, some nasty. As I see it, everyone has an inner beauty and can love (yes, even atheist!!), as everyone has the image of God in them. Whether they realise it or not, the beauty is still there.

I hear what you are saying but I have to say that the same misconceptions exist about Christians or fundies as most people call us!

We are all regarded as dim, intolerant, irrational bigots. I have even seen people here call all Christians schizophrenics.

I wouldn't call all Atheist angry but I see a lot of anger towards Christians and a lot of it seems to be coming from Atheists.

I'm not trying to justify the aggression towards Atheists, coming from Christians. It's certainly not what Jesus taught! All I'm saying is, that both sides are guilty of this!

It's really sad that people can't seem to debate their beliefs without becoming disagreeable or even hateful.

I personally know a lot of Atheists and I know that they're generally no more sad or unhappy than other people!

I think they need God but so does everybody else! I'm sorry you don't get the respect you deserve from my fellow Christians!

There are a number of people who have the notion that if 'one does not believe exactly as I do, do not worship the same deity as I do then they cannot possibly be happy and satisfied with life because I am happy and satisfied.' They have narrowed their scope and cannot see that they aren't the only ones who have belief systems. Some of this undoubtedly comes from religion itself and can be passed onto to them as family belief. When others of other belief systems say they are happy, satisfied or in no need of the deity in question it falls on deaf ears because they just do not have the ability to fathom it. There are none so blind as those that will not see.

The only difference between atheists, agnostics, and believers is their belief in deities; other than than that there are no differences.

I beleive some of it stems that during circumism, the guy doing the cutting takes the baby boys severed penis in his mouth and draws out the rest of the blood. There was a recent slew of articles in the NYC papers about baby boys getting Hepatisis C from a Rabbi who was performing these brises//brisi. Seeing as how its an age old practice maybe ppl got the wrong idea? About the blood drinking however.

I have no feelings like that about atheism. I am a Christian, and I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. If someone approaches me about my faith, I have no problem explaining anything I can to them, but if someone is obviously not interested, I don't pursue or harass them. If a person is an atheist, that is their choice. I can't choose for them or force my beliefs on them, just as I wouldn't expect an atheist or an evolutionist to force their theories or beliefs on me. To each their own, as long as they aren't hurting anyone.

    >>"Atheists are sad, atheists are boring, atheists are angry, atheists can't love, atheism is the same thing as hedonism, atheists lie, atheists have no concept of morality..."

I never believed these things. And I am the kind of person that if I thought that, I would just tell you.

I'm not Christian, though I was raised as such. From what I was always taught, Jesus himself was a Jew. So for a Christian to hate a Jew....they are hating the very faith of their Lord.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if some Christians DO hate Jews. Christians are hateful.

As a Christian Pastor I have never once thought that an atheist was anything other than another human being.

It may be that our beliefs differ but we all want the same basic things.

    Happiness, love and security.

Atheists don't believe in the fact that we were made in God's image . Why can't they believe that we didn't evolve from lower life forms ? Scientifically speaking , I can't figure why we would actually come out of a puddle of protoplasm being as intelligent as we are . That would be highly unlikely at best . May God bless you and your family .
