For military on active duty only, please...?

If someone came up to you in an airport, restaurant or other place, which would you rather they said to you?

1. We're grateful for what you're doing over there.

2. We're trying to get you home as soon as possible.

Please mention your branch and unit. I really only want to hear from active service military.

If you see me at the airport or at a resturant I will be at the BAR and all you have to do to show your support is to buy me a drink. That says it all and I will gladly walk up to you and thank you.

I just got out of the Navy last September and I know I would have preferred the first. My husband is a Marine who just got home from Iraq this March and we've discussed this several times and I know that he would also prefer the first. If we leave too early, it will all have been done in vain. I don't want my friends to have died for no reason.

Sorry I am just a spouse here too but I asked my husband the same question too and he also said that he would rather hear thank you as well. He knows what his job is and he knows that part of his job description is to go when he is told so he would rather hear someone say they are grateful for him doing his job than them trying to undermine his job.

  • I have asked my husband and his friends basically the same question, so I hope that you don't mind me answering, though I'm just a spouse.

All of them said they would prefer to just get a "Thank you, we know you can do what you were sent to do."

My husband is US Army, but I would rather not say which unit...never know who's reading this, you know. But we are currently stationed in the Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. His unit is actually deployed right now.

Don't count this response as I am not active duty military. But I will be watching the answers that come in. For all active duty military reading this, thank you for your service and real Americans are so very proud of you.

When i was flying home from a year long deployment from Iraq last December i would have to say we're grateful for what you're doing, or a thank you. Probably the most heart warming thing that happend to me was an AFL and ex-NFL play came up to me and my buddies and thanked us and said that he looks up to us.

    Were grateful.

dont undermine our want to serve our country whether you agree with it or not.

war is unfortunate but necessary. all the freedom people have to protest, including burning our national flag, is due to war. if it were not for wars, you would be paying high taxes to britain and getting little or support from them.

    Remember that.

I would prefer the first, because alot of people dont appreciate what we do, and we should atleast get a thanks because we are risking our lives for them.
