Because they don't want you to spam with useless questions. It at least limits you I suppose. Yahoo seems to want more answers than questions so the people that are willing to lose 5 points get their questions answered.
If they gave points for questions, think of all the useless questions there that would shove the useful questions down the list.

If you received points for asking a question and lost points for answering a question. There would just be too many questions and no one to care to answer them.
So it makes perfect sense to what it is right now.

to limit the amount of questions you ask, just like limiting the number of answers you can give.
it's cool though, because you get 3 back when you choose a best answer, so you're just losing 2, sort of.
Increase your points and you'll be able to ask more and answer more,etc.....happy asking

Because, people are willing to ask the stupidest questions and they should be penalized for them. Some should be charged twice the regular amount of points when they ask really dumb questions!

To limit the number of stupid questions being asked....but from looking around it doesn't seem to be working...they better raise the price to 20 points.

The points are assessed to encourage people to ask serious Questions.
The idea is: serious Answers to serious Questions.
The loss of points is intended to reduce the number of silly Questions ("Do you like my avatar? Why is the sky blue? Anyone want to chat? Anyone else here eleven years old? I'm bored. Any hotttt boiz?? Who wants to do sex with me?" etc.)

I really have no idea... The world works in weird ways like that. All i know is that i just got 2 points and you lost five... which seems really unfair and inconvenient.

ur firs question gets you like 90 points. then, every question asked is minus five points

yea thats a dump rule. it makes me NOT want to ask questions, and isnt this whole system fed of the support of having people ask questions to gain knowledge? thats weird considering their system benefits answerins questions (which could be complete bullshit) in contrast to asking questions which we have been told to do frequently our whole lives.
