CD player still works, but no AM/FM reception of any kind on car radio?
My daughter's car radio recently stopped working, the CD player works fine but she gets no reception of any kind from the AM/FM radio. I have not listened to it but as she describes it, she gets no static or sound of any kind. When she puts in a CD, it plays fine. Any clues as to the problem ?

Check the antenna. See if the antenna on the vehicle is damaged (this time of year car washes take off 90% of vehicle antennae).
Assuming the vehicles antenna is intact and in one piece, check the antenna connection behind the radio. If the antenna is connected behind the radio, there could possibly be a problem with the radio's tuner (internally). The only way to properly diagnose this problem is to place a radio that is known to work into the vehicle (simply to test) and check the radio reception. If the radio reception is improved and working, you know the problem lies within the radio itself.
If it still does not work, there is a problem with the antenna on the vehicle (disconnected, damaged, cut, etc.)

It sound like the Antenna cable may have become loose and disconnected from the back of the radio. Try taking out the radio and check the back of the unit. If the Antenna cable is connected then I would suspect the radio is bad. She may have a short circuit. Check the fuse. Good luck!

The antenna. Check the connection of the antenna.
Orrrr...if u havent checked. check to see if the radio is actually on an FM channel, when my dad uses my car, he listens to AM radio n sometimes i hit my station number on AM n no sound. so check that too
if not, its the connection from the antenna to radio.

If it is an aftermarket radio, the antenna has most likely come out of the back of it. If not, there is some other type of issue with the antenna.

Your local Ford dealer may be able to help. I have heard that if you put the radio into the freezer for a few hours, it will reset the EPROM which holds the code and reset to 0000. But I think this is just a rumour - you'd better do a bit more research before freezing the radio...

to go to the effort of asking this u probably have checked the aeiral, if it is a SONY headunit i know that some occasionaly have a problem with the ***** (i cant remember what it is called) . It malfunctions and is basically screwed.... in most cases it is not economically feasible to fix... if expensive headunit maybe take to an electrical repairer of devices such as these.. maybe able to help.. otherwise i am stumped..

Her radio wires may not be attached or the darn thing is broken. The radio and CD are separate and work independently from one another.

ur car antenna is disconnected. the cable goes to the right side behind the glove box. the up....it is usually a 90 degree connecter. push it back in, or check to see if it is cut/damage
