Does anybody believe the church should be responsible for harming people throughout human history?
The crusades, the missions and the relentless collecting of tithes... the church is the richest organization in the world while a million people starve. Should the church practice what it preaches?

The church should, indeed, practice what it preaches. Some churches practice the word of God more frequently than others, however there are, unfortunately, no perfect churches in this world because everyone alive is human. Most of the harmful acts that CAN be traced directly to churches has come from churches that do not take the scripture in the bible at face value and try to change the Holy Bible's literary content to please themselves or to devise man-made schemes to attract others to join their group at any cost. The "church" is technically "the people" and not referring to a building or an esoteric organization. Thus, a church today, is a reflection of the people who are attracted to the building or the organization and many only attend to socialize, make money and to satisfy personal needs instead of obeying the teachings of God and Jesus Christ. Many people do not even take time to read and understand the Bible, even less to apply it to their daily lives.

To some extent the Church is responsible for some chaos in the world because there were popes abd some people in the hierarchy who made incorrect decisions causing the crusades to crush people and for some in collecting money from the people in a wrong way. Nevertheless, the Church is still the best instrument in upholding morality around the world.

How can the church practice what it preaches?, the practices/rules have been developed over many hundreds of years according to how the individuals in power at any given time felt, there is very little that is relevant, practicable or applicable in the 21st century, I believe more damage has been done over the years to individuals, families and countries by religion (of whatever calling) than by any other cause.

The people who commit sin are responsible for their actions and they will pay the price if they don't repent.
Several leaders of the Catholic church have altered the text of the bible for their own benefit, and that's a shame. But the whole church does not have to suffer for the sins of these people.
The Catholic Church will continue to do what's in their best interest, as long as people keep giving them money; and don't demand the truth of the past.

The churches are ran by humans, therefore it is the humans that are responsible for the suffering, not the churches per se. So it is man that is responsible for the misinterpretation of how the churches are to be ran who should practice what they should Preach.

well there is no one unified church, so i'm assuming you mean christians in general. more people have died in the name of God than for any other reason in history. that said people today were not alive during the crusades or when indians were slaughtered. i am not responsible for the sins of my father much less the sins of my great-great-great-great grandfather whose name i don't even know.i do agree that money would be better spent helping others than in building more monuments to God that only the priviledged few will ever see.you're better off going into the woods, beach, desert and worshipping if you truly want to connect to spirit.

I wouldn't worry about it. The Church has been discredited intellectually and archaeologically. Only some fragile minds still hold an emotional attachment to this dying institution. Just let it continue to fade away.

The Church is the body of believers, not the establishment. Most religions have man made motives. All will be held accountable for their actions in the end. :)

The church that Jesus made does practice what it preaches, other churches need your money to pay all those who lured innocent priests into forsaking their vows and then claiming they did nothing themselves. That their mothers believe them is enough proof, right?

Well, don't they help the poor. Anyways, I personaly belive that you don;'t need church to believe. You should belive what ever you want to believe and worship god or not worship anything, its up to you. Churches are overrated. Why is that i need to go to the church, what is that where the god is? He is not in my home? Thats kinda ignorant on the side of god, that he choses to be somwhere I am not.
