What's the point of making more noise with your car?

Some people enjoy noisy cars... what in the world are they thinking?

    A lot of people have low self-esteems, and feel the need to compensate for their shortcomings by making their car noticable either in appearance or sound. It's sad, really.

    it is a motorhead status thing. If you can make your engine sound faster than it really is, then you think you are all that. Sometimes, in muslce cars, the motor really is that loud, like in a 70-71 charger or challenger, with a 440, for example, there really is power there and it is noisy, it is a speed, status issue

    I just enjoy litening to the staccato, primal burble of a V8. It's a symphony and a cacophony all at once. I don't do it for other people, I do it for myself.

    Besides that, opening up the exhaust can provide a couple more HP, although sometimes at the loss of some torque.

    It is much easier to make more noise than less. Ever try to replace a muffler assembly(pipe,catalytic converter, etc....)?

    In some cases it allows more exhaust flow making more power

    my '91 mitsubishi galant was loud as helll, but it was embarrasing, i actually paid to get it to shut the f%^&$ up. it died 2 months later. i bought another mitsubishi, this time eclipse
