Apparently Materazzi WAS speaking in Italian, which Zidane understands from his years playing for Juventus, as any soccer fan would know.

Nobody knows for sure, but the 2 big theories are 1.) something racial about Zidane's Algerian background, or 2.) something equally insulting about Zidane's ailing mother

Just a sidenote - Italy still would've won....they had held France that far, and even if Zidane would've been involved in the penalty kicks, so would've TREZEGUET....WHO MISSED!

Result then? 5-4 on kicks, in favor of FORZA AZZURRI :)

It is said that the italian made a racial slur.I'm not french nor am i italian but i will say this.It's to bad Zidane didn't knock him harder.The only thing that makes this all better is knowing that those italians didn't win because they're better,they only won on penalties.Of course they won't say that.

Aparently matterazzi had a hair ball in his throat from licking zidanes scalp,hence the lack of barnet coverage & asked zidane to perform the arms around the chest & pull manouver to remove it,so to stop himself from coming across as an *** bandit on tv standing behind him & thrusting he opted for the manly way & headbutted his chest to clear his airways,what a kind considerate bloke he is.the ref took it the wrong way!

Zidane should step up and let the whole wide world know what exactly that Materazzi called him... i believe it was really insulting and hurting to zidane...
