email attachments containing virus?

There are many possibilities to receive junky mail from knowbutunknow: There are virus sacanning addresses from Address book of your friends; Sometimes junky HTML just looking for cookies (mails) and sending to other database or some free mail server were cracked.

Probably your friend had his mail address scanned by a internal virus and this virus sent its copies to all/partial friends found.

Just warn him ans ask to execute an updated antivirus. Do the same at your computer.

One of your friends has a virus that is using their address book to email itself out. Normally this types of viruses will come with their own mail engine so the sent email will not appear in your friends email program sent items. The best thing to do is to get all of your friends to scan their machines. I have found AVG from Grisoft to be one of the better virus scanners and they have a free personal version on their website.

Basically, certain types of virus will infect your PC, and send itself on to other users on your contacts list. It is unlikely that your PC is infected, unless you ran the virus (in other words opened the attachment). By running the attachment, you will probably activate the virus, and it'll send itself on to the contacts in the address book.

It is unlikely to do much harm - many viruses are just annoying, as apposed to leaving lasting damage.

To avoid viruses, consider installing anti-virus software on your PC, such as Norton Antivirus or McAfee. These are typically around $40, and will include 1 years updates of "virus definitions".

It's a virus that they have on their pcs which is causing this - it's automatically sending to everyone in their address book. Tell them to scan their computer and clean it. Do the same with yours.

Its your friend that has the virus, it will mail everyone on their email address book. get a good anti-virus scaner, Try a Panda scan.

there is a virus going around which you DONT OPEN if it says.. "invitation"... they are made by people copying where you send emails too...through your mailer@daemon etc...

if it gets in your system.. it will WIPE it.... this one had been classed by microsoft as the most destructive ever.....

it wont just happen to you it will happen to everyone, anyway use norton internet securtiy you wont get to open the attachment as it will scan it and say it is infected. so try that and good luck.
