Usually embalming. we use the body's natural circulatory system to distribute an embalming chemical, formaldehyde gas suspended in water basically. arteries are used for embalming and veins are used for draining blood. Also, there is not a lot of mutilation going on, in a normal case the only incision made is a one inch line horizontally along the collarbone to access the coratid and jugular. Evisceration is also done to slow down the decomposition process. This is done by inserting a sharp pointed instrument called a trocar into the abdomen (2 inches over and 2 inches up from the belly button) to aspirate the contents of the internal organs. Then a stronger formaldehyde solution is injected into the trocar hole to preserve the body cavities. And a plug or suture is used to close that up

    after that, cosmetics are applied.

A mortician will usually remove all of the blood from the body but will keep the organs intact inside the body (unless the deceased volunteered his/her organs for donation). The mortician will then pump the major vessels with a substance called formaldehyde, which slows down the decaying process. The mortician will then typically wire the mouth shut and stuff the open cavities (nose, ears, etc.) with a substance to prevent "comings and goings", as it were. Then, usually depending on the surviving family's wishes, the mortician will then dress the corpse and put makeup on it in order to soften the visual effect of a "dead corpse".

  • They embalm the body to preserve it a bit and put makeup on it...if there's a wound on the body that you can see...like on the face or on the hands (depending on what you want the person to wear if it's an open casket funeral) they'll do their best to cover it up...They make them look like they're sleeping instead of dead.

they stick this huge needle like thing with a hose on the end of it in the top of the shoulder next to the head and drain out the blood then they do the same thing but put in embalming fluid.

    Source(s): i have mortician friends...
