When will trendy mallcore kids leave my metal alone?
I can't stand crappy "metal" bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Atreypoo, or most of that victory records crap.
Pantera was awesome. It was hardcore mixed with thrash metal, but at least Dime could play. Their songs have more than 3 parts. At least Nevermore is still OWNS. Arch Enemy Lamb of God, and Trivium are awesome, but seriously: Atreyu!? They can't even play! I know that's "not what music is about", but metal isn't POP music. It isn't about the hook 800 times in a row, but having a hook AND brutality AND talent. Metal is supposed to be about good music and not being one-dimensional. 20 DIFFERENT parts in ONE song. goddamn it don't have 15 choruses with def lepard backup vocals.
You need more than Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus(10 times in a row)/repeat 1st verse!!
Play a SOLO - remember those? Have your drummer use his double bass. If your album has more than 3 Three minute pop songs on it, you can't call yourself metal. That's why hair metal sucked.
PS I like all kinds of music.
I'm not claiming the superiority of metal (even though it is my favorite), but I listen to metal because it is challenging. If I want awesome hooks, I put on Pinkerton, or NOFX. If I want POP, i turn on the radio. If I want 2Pac, I play 2Pac.
But when I want awesome riffs, I don't play a 2Pac song.
I'm not saying metal shouldn't have a hook, but that's not why you like metal.
Of course you want a hot woman, but she needs a brain and personality, too. Not just a great a$$.

LOL. I like this question better. I answered your other question about diamonds and rappers earlier and decided to check out your profile. Pantera was the band I turned to when I was REALLY fired up. You just cannot simulate Phil's growl or Dime's guitar (R.I.P.) I don't know what's going on these days. And what the hell is up with that band The Darkness? OMG!

yeah, bands like atreyu and a7x are just pretty boy bands. They look pretty so all the preteen girls will go buy their cds. Metal is supposed to be fast and hard, not 'kute' guys in tight pants.
