Why do some people procrastinate and others don't?

Do you get things accomplised ahead of time, or do you wait until the last minute?

I'm procrasination right now..... I'm really curious...

I don't consider myself lazy. I work about 60hrs a week and go to grad school at night, and have always gotten excellent grades. I just always wait until the very last minute to do my work (always within deadlines).

Why? I'd like to change, but since this has always worked out for me, there's not much incentive to do so (other than STRESS)!

What are your thoughts on why people procrasinate?

Dude. Always know that there are people out there just like you.

Im a big time procrastinator and here are my excuses: I am a perfectionist. I know its kinda an oxymoron.. but its such a pain to do things perfectly.. you just want to do it all at the last minute. Besides, if u live your life the same way everyday, the stress of being a procrastinator just adds some oomph to your day. The stress and pressure build up.. its exciting in a way. When you do something important in those few minutes.. trying to meet the deadline.. you feel empowered.

I'd like to change too.. but like you.. it has always worked for me.. ;)

I procrastinate because I work better under the deadline. If it's the last minute, the stress really brings out my best work. Seriously - I'm a 4.0 student, I just graduated nursing school, and I'm starting a new job this week, and I can't imagine NOT waiting until the last minute to do things. It just works for me.

I am quite a procratinator as well...people are always thinking that they will have time to do it later...if it is due in a week, why work on it tonight if you have 24 more hours worth of work?? lol

Many times people cannot help but procrastinate...it is part of human nature. Some people, however, cannot handle the stress of doing last minute projects, and lay out certain times to do things...

    Everyone is different!

Some perfectionists procrastinate until they believe they have the time and /or resources to complete the task at hand as well as they can. Also, some people actually are able to perform better under pressure. I've composed term papers at the computer the night before they were do, with amazing success.

Historically, I'm a procrastinator. Lately I've learned that motivation starts with action. Once I begin something, it seems to self perpetuate. I think non-procrastinators learn this early on. I used to think I was lazy, now I know that it's just that I don't plan very well to get started and stay going. Once I have a plan and get going, the rest is easy.

I'm in the same boat. When it comes to studying, I remember more when I study @ the last minute. I guess I've become accustomed to doing everything at the last minute. I'm to busy trying to get stuff done for the next day that I don't have time to do things ahead of time

Some people are just wired to do things this way and, like you, they just tend to function well under the pressure that they HAVE to get something done because the deadline is looming.

Plp. do this cause society is so focused on the task at hand, that they lose the big picture. Procrastinators get by cause others let them. That`s the bottom line.

Simply put: why do now what you can put off until later?

Or, alternatively: hard work pays off later, but relaxing always pays off now.
