Can you drink too much blood?

Ben Rothlesberger said that he almost died from bleeding into his stomach. He said it was too much blood for his stomach to handle. I can understand bleeding too much and that causing death. But can too much blood being consummed cause death?

Well, I suppose if you drink it regularly, the vomiting will dehydrate you and the lack of needed vitamins and minerals would surely kill you. In Ben's situation, he was "bleeding out" and blood cannot be recycled from consuming it. It is very hard to digest, and it goes straight through the intestines.

You can get into trouble because your body knows that it is not supposed to be ingested. Eventually, you will begin to vomit the blood out. Since it is rather thick, especially when it begins to coagulate, it poses a huge choking risk when you are trying to heave it out.
