Shady Car Salesman?

My Son went to see if he could get a car financed at a local Chevy dealer, they told him he could get, just needs my signature and info to insure the car. When he brings me the paperwork, it was for a loan. he said the saleman told him they were out of the forms, and for me to use the one he provided. Even after I told him it was a credit app, and that all they need to do was call the insurance company anddon't need my signature, my son was convinced by what the guy told him. I think the salesperson misled my son and should be reported for this. How and where do I report this to in NY?

Update:

He took his Mother and the guy told her the same thing. She, unlike me filled it out, they told my Son he can pick up the car on Friday, My Son leaves a deposit, goes to pick up car, then told he didn't get approved. Even after the car was insured in his name and all. Thanks for all answers

Update 2:

Ok, I've seen some of the answers here, first of all, no need for sarchasm or the national gaurd. Please read questions before answering them, the app was sent in place of a form for insurance, I'm not an idiot, and my Son is 20 who has never financed anything, which does not make him and idiot for not knowing, and yes, I verified all this, the guy denied it, my son swore by it, called sales guy a liar in front of him, made a scene, more detail than I wanted to add. All I want to know is how to report someone for bad sales practice to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

report it to the attorney general's office in your state... also the better business bureau is a good place to contact as well. I would also give a call to the sales manager at the dealership.

Your son went for financing and comes home with a form to apply for financing after the salesman told him he needs your signature. OH MY GOD, HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN!!!??? Really, somebody should call Governor and demand he call out the National Guard.

Instead of making a lot assumptions, go to the dealership and ask what needs to be done if your son wants to finance a car. He is obviously not competent to manage the transaction on his own. The both of you seem to know enough to realize that his ability to finance is a question (i.e. he went to ask), so don't be surprised if Jr. needs a co-signer. And if Jr.'s car is going to go on your insurance, of course you are going to have to sign something. It's your insurance, Jr. is going to need your consent to add a car to your policy. And the dealer is not just able to "call the insurance company." They'll need things in writing. That's only good business practice.

    how old is your son?

If he is under 18, he can back out of a deal or contract because he is consider a minor and you can't hold minors to contracts.

Get a representative from a law firm to talk to you and your family about this. But to me it seems like you are unforuntatley failling into some sort of sales trap.

If he does get the car, make sure that all of you read about the lemon laws. I can't stress how important they are.

    good luck.

is this really what the salesman said? or is your son trying to get you to co-sign? go up to the dealership with him and question before you assume.

Just go with him to the dealership and see if he sticks with his story.
