First, you have to be able to sing reasonably well,

that takes natural ability AND lots of practice to develop the skill.

Then it helps if you can also dance and have stage presence,

"fame" is only achieved when people know who you are, so you have to get out there and put on shows that entertain the public.

Then it helps if you're marketable and fit the image that the record companies are pushing, which currently is very thin and toned, but also with curves in all the right places (usually fake).

Then you have to sell your soul to the devil, or Diddy...

There are MANY unknown singers out there, who sing in local bands, in commercials, or as back-ups to the "famous" ones -- if you love to sing, you can make a living at it without ever walking a red carpet.

I'm guessing that you already have a good voice. Well then, your next step is to create some sort of controversy. After you create your album, if you want to get people to listen, you need to do something bold that would get you some exposure...

such as:

let the papparazzi film you and another 'already' famous celeb such as Lindsey Lohan while you fight or scuffle in public. Maybe you can get in a minor car accident with a celeb...then give your side of the story to Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, or Celebrity Justice...make sure you mention your new album coming out...maybe you can rip on that same celeb in a song.
