Answers already given are right.
The problem few people see is that Lebanon kicked out the Syrians and set about a peace full existence. Sadly two things guaranteed this would not succeed.
Syria supplied arms, ammunition, finance and a lot of rockets to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Lebanese knew that Hezbollah was there and actively stockpiling weapons and did nothing to stop it.
Hence Hezbollah attack across the Israeli border and force retaliation. Where Lebanon has allowed Hezbollah to base themselves there and flourish and to stockpile weapons and fire them from amongst the housing, Israel is now forced to act to remove them.
The current fighting will eventually stop.
Will world leaders have the courage and conviction to isolate Syria and apply sanctions to this state which supports many terrorist groups including Al Qeada.
Will Lebanon at last see the need to police their border and expel Hezbilah terrorists? If they do not they will be the architects of the next attacks against them.

Yes. Hezbollah is hellbent on wiping out the Jews. From what I can see the abduction and killing of the Israeli soldiers this week was like the straw that broke the camels back. So Israel decided it was time to really take the fight to Hezbollah since the Lebanese government is too weak to stop them. How long? Good question. I have no idea.

Playground Logic-
1) If you want lots of bullies to beat you up, give in every time.
2) If you want to stop the bullies- go crying to teacher (this will only make you into a bigger target later) or kick A-...
3)If you want to stop the really stupid bully, "kill" him.
Also- Law of Physics- "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction"
("You attack me, I'll attack you")
Israel is retaliating- they are defending their land, homes, families, etc. I think this is an entirely reasonable reaction.
I think about their options- let Palestinians destroy them, or fight back... hmmm. What would you do?
In regards to how long it will last... I think the world needs to ask the Palestinian attackers.
If you look back into the long rocky (to say the least) relationship between Israel and Palestine, Israel only attacks Palestine AFTER Palestine attacks first. If Palestine were to stop instigating (starting) stuff, I think Israel would happily stop fighting back- there would be no need to "defend" against someone who isn't attacking.

No not at all. If he calls others terrorist than what he is doing to solve his own problems with his adjacent countries why he can not solve those problems by diplomatic relations Now he knows no one can stand in front of him and no one has such a sophisticated military equipments to use against him and other Arabs nations are puppets of USA so he is doing and acting No.1 and more worst than terrorist in the Middle East If US saying he has rights to protect his own soldiers and citizens than why US itself doing in Iraq their people are most important than the other countries and other part of world than why US talks always about human rights those are not human beings every part of world human has all equal values by nature no one is made of any other kind of material it is very long and vast topic but Israel is not a country who does not want peace and development in the Arab Nations and one day they will have results from almighty I am against all kind of terrorism I am not even supporter of any terrorist group of the world.
