I want to sell some items at a flea market but don't know how it works.?

Any suggestions, if you have been involved in this, and have experience, please help. What I have to sell is something like beaded jewelry, rosaries, earrings. Everygthing is hand made. I also need to know if I have to pay taxes. Thank you in advance for any information you provide.

Most flea markets require you to have a sales tax id number either for the state or for the county ( example; in florida you have to have a different number for every county you sell in). There are some flea markets that do not require this, but if the local police ask for it and you don't have it you can get a citation. It does not cost anything to get a sales tax id number, you just have to fill out the form and file according to the rules.

As for setting up at a flea market, it is best to contact the owner of the flea market you wish to sell at. He may have specific rules of what you can and can not sell there.

You most likely will have to pay a rental fee for the booth. Some provide tables for you and others do not.

As for finding a good flea market, try the yellow pages.

Taxes - depends on where you live. But a tax ID is easy to get.

Contact the flea market where you want to sell. They rent the booths/tables for a fixed price. Give it a try, and remember you still need to get the word out, it takes time to build a business. I bet they could at least point you in the right direction for tax info.

    Good luck

Every Flea market had different requirements. The best way to approach this is by first visiting the flea market of choice and they will lead you in the right direction.
