please help me explain the poem "we alone" by alice walker....?

Update:

We alone can devalue gold

by not caring

if it falls or rises

in the marketplace.

Wherever there is gold

there is a chain, you know,

and if your chain

is gold

so much the worse

for you.

Feathers, shells

and sea-shaped stones

are all as rare.

This could be our revolution:

to love what is plentiful

as much as

what is scarce.

She contrasts the love of money and what society says is "valuable" with the love of beauty in and of itself, and her poem plays with how we could change the way we think, ultimately the way society thinks.

I LOVE Alice Walker. She is a spokesperson for beauty and truth and for things that have no voice.

    We Alone Poem

She's talking about how things get value. Value depends on us. We can decide feathers are worth more than gold and then... they would be. It's a clever idea in theory. Can you think of anything that has changed value suddenly due to public opinion?

You could at least post the poem. Then we'll talk. :D
