What is the difference between a woofer and a subwoofer??

I am trying to learn about loudspeakers.

I want to know what is the physical difference between a woofer and a subwoofer.

Is its frame, voice coil, magnet, cap, diaphragm and/or spider is different?

I have tried answers.com, but I am not satisfied yet.

Please help. Thank you.

This is easy... A woofer is just a low frequency speaker. A Sub woofer is very low frequency speaker. There really is no difference in a woofer and a sub woofer. Just how people say it. You have highs "tweeter", mid range, low range and sub woofer. Lets say you have a nice car audio system. a 1" tweeter, a 3-4 inch mid range, a 5-6" low range or mid, and a 8-18" sub woofer. Some people call an 8-10" a woofer and anything bigger a sub woofer. Want a great system? 1" tweeter, 4 inch mid, 5-6" sub mid, 8-10" woofer, 12-18" sub woofer.

A Woofer acts or transmits in a ceratin Freq Range, a Subwoofer, or Subsonic Woofer acts or transmits in a frequency that is lower than the standard Bass Woofer.

    i'm not positive.

mids have woofers, to get both the highs and lows of the music.

subwoofers focus only on the lows and take out all highs and mids, to get nothing but solid bass.

normally subwoofers are the smaller ones
