My son is getting ready to turn 9. For his birthday I wanted to redecorate his room.?

I am not sure what to do. I want to get him away from the charaters. I want him to think that his room cool. He is big into cartoons and things but I don't want to do the charaters. Any and all ideas are welcome. I am really stuck on this one.

Well if he is big in cartoons and u don't want cartoons do a shelving project on one wall or a lighted curio cabinet for his best stuff

mind you there are other cheaper alternatives just giving you an example.

a nice techy desk if he likes computers etc

don't mind me if i went overboard just seems like a room id pick for myself here,

but as for the comp/tv if he plays alot of video games a seperate flat screen 26 inch tv should do the trick

Give his room a nature or sports theme then.

If he likes the beach or swimming, use ocean hues and you can be creative and add sharks, fish, whatever he likes. They sell wall stickers that do not cause damage to the wall.

If he likes astronomy, you can do a mini solar system, rockets, etc.

If he likes racing...you get the idea.

His input and participation is very important.

Does he like sports? You can do his room in his favorite team's colors and logo for whatever sport he likes. You can have a field day with this actually! :-) Ever watch extreme homemakeover? If so, try to think back to some really cool themed boys rooms you saw!!

Try sports stuff....like baseballs, footballs, etc. My mom did my younger brother's room in it when he was little. She got a lot of that kind of stuff from Home Interior Inc. but now you can also get it at walmart, ABC distributing, and the dollar stores.

    Here's an example: http://www.abcdistributing.com/home/catalog/cat_it...

Consider painting the room in solid colors, and allow a smattering of his favorite characters, perhaps with posters and stuff. But let the walls and bedding be free from such decor. And give him plenty of storage for his toys.

    It will be such fun!

There are some good suggestions already posted here.

    I have just one more..

    .

Chalk board paint on a wall is always a hit with kids..

Their artistic skills may surprise you...

    Good Luck

I like the bedding at this store

You can also have them send you a catalog. They don't have great accessories to go with the bedding, but sometimes the catalog has some neat decorating ideas.
