Do dogs ever get colds?

Yup. They get sick just like we do. But you can't catch a cold from a dog nor can a dog catch a cold from a human. I've wondered about this too, because my dog was outside during the winter for the whole day and he wouldn't come in the house. And when he spent the whole evening lying in his bed. When i asked my dad if he has a cold, he said they don't get colds.
