Dog species? There are so many, yet none in the wild?
Why are there so many different types of dogs, and yet none of these dogs seem to exist anywhere but in domestication. Same goes for cats...why arent these creatures in the wild anywhere?

Because human intervention selectively bred dogs for specific jobs for thousands of years, chosing to breed for specific traits (size, color, coat, shape, etc.).
If dogs were left to their own devices, they would eventually revert to a mid-sized, medium-coated, rangy-type dog with a double coat. The Canaan Dog is probably the closest thing to what a "natural" Canis Familiaris would look like.
By the way, while there are many, many breeds, they're all the same species.

The Dingos, native to Australia, are actually a breed cross of dalmations (hard to believe, I know!) and some other domestic dog species that were let loose on the island. They became feral (wild), and multiplied until the breed had a uniform look- tan color, meduim size, pointy ears. These are not decendants of wolves or other wild dogs, they are a group of domestic dogs that became wild.
As for cats... some groups of them become feral, and have their own society and hunting groups, but they do not have their own breed name, or a uniform look like Dingos do.

Same reason why there aren't any Wild Cows. Domestic dogs are a human creation. Without humans, there would be wild dogs, but they'd pretty much all look the same. Genetics, it's a very cool thing.

Yes, it's human intervention. We have bred dogs to do what we want them to do. In the wild they would develop like other wild dogs and species do to suit the territory that they are in.
