I see no reason for Israel to attack Lebanon, For what? What did Lebanon do to Israel?

Its not like Lebanon made an attack on them like (11 of Sep).

They have no reason to do all this.

a bully will always remain a bully, especially if they will never be brought to justice. Today, nations rule by the law of might, forget about justice.

It's all a power game with clear stakes. Israel is surrounded by Arab states and as you know Israeli-Arab relations arent exactly the best. If they could, I mean the Arab states, they would have long ago put the lid on Israel. So Israel is interested in its security. The 2 soldiers story may be true, but its only an excuse, the excuse Israel needed to neutralize a foe in Lebanese territory. The us is interested in the vast oil resources in the middle east and is now engaged in a very difficult situacion in Irak. On top of all some Middle East States are trying to arm themselves as best they can, the us of course is interested that the type of weaponry they have is limited. Supporting Israel the us has on one hand a strong ally, and on the other hand, Israel's actions make the arab or muslim underground fighters weaker and all this plays in favor of pressuring other middle eastern states to curb their weapons race. Of course I havent mentioned many other things, just trying to answer your question in a nutshell. As someone else said before me, you would have to read to be able to understand better the whole situation. The situation I dont understand lies elsewhere, in Colombia, I never understood well what's happening there but that's a different matter, I think I'll put a question on that to see if someone gives me the abc on that.

You must be joking. Lebanon supported and housed the Hezbollah terrorist regime. They gave them land and freedom to operate. They supported them when they attacked and murdered Israeli civilians.

Lebanon has the ability to get rid of Hezbollah, and they choose not to. Because of this, Israel will attack Hezbollah in Lebanon.

this goes way back-in 1982-Hezbollah killed 241 marines in their beds asleep-then blew up the US embassy-both in Beriut-then they attacked Israel-then Israel pushed into Lebanon and held about the lower 20 miles of their country for 18 years, then pulled out after a cease fire and a UN resoulution (1559) which called for Isreal to withdraw-which they did in hours-and it called for Hezbollah to disarm-now a few weeks ago, Israel was attacked when their border was crossed and several Israeli soldiers were killed and two were abducted-then Hezbollah began firing unguided rockets across their border into homes and businesses-and well now, Hezbollah is having their A$$ handed to them by the Israeli army and its about *&^% time someone pushed back-sometimes violence, although primitive and anti-social, can actually bring about peace-because a clear victor is declared when a war is completed-and someone is the winner-with continuous cease-fires and diplomacy, nothing is solved-a stalemate does not decide the conclusion-so in this case, diplomacy has failed again and again-it will never solve the problem-only a clear winner and loser will decide the peace process in the middle east. That will be decided by God in the final battle which should begin soon.

Hezbollah (a state within states group similar to Al Queda) went into Israel and took two Israeli soldiers. Israel demanded that the soldiers be given back, they weren't returned. Israel told Lebanon that if the soldiers were not returned, there would be severe consequences, soldiers still were not returned. Israel then took matters into their own hands.

Hezbollah, a terrorist organization which is based in Lebanon, invaded and captured 2 Israeli soldiers. That's how it started. Israel is attacking Hezbollah, not Lebanon. I'm not saying their response was appropriate, nor that it wasn't, I'm just explaining.

Bad place to ask a question like this. Nobody really knows the answer. They'll all say hezbollah because that's what Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair say. But this conflict has been full force since the 40's, and if you wanna get a little more into it, since the 18th century. You gotta crack open a text book if you really wanna know what's going on.

p.s. CNN is not a text book!

(sorry......here I go stating my strong opinion like I was trying to avoid). And oh, MY BAD...Isreal has a right to defend itself...and so does every nation....except for the Arab world? Excuse me, people....STOP QUOTING ONE PHRASE. It's not working. You're being spoon-fed these meaningless words, and they're contradictory. I'm not telling you to adopt my opinion. I'm just asking, please PLEASE...go and find out for yourself what the truth is. Please. I'm very very confident that what you'll find will shock and hurt you.

I actually have a very strong opinion about the matter, but I'd much rather tell you to find out the truth for yourself!!

The israelis dont give a damn whether it is lebanon or gaza. All they need is to show maximum terror and use of lethal weapons.

Lebanon is a muslim country, and unfortunately is located next to a vicious neighbor called Israel. The current conflict is a show of maximum force. f-16's versus rockets. or rocks versus tanks. We the earthlings are sad to see a country called Israel among us.

Lebanon did NOT start the war. Israel start it and they want to destroy Hezbollah because Israel scare from them.

  • 1 decade ago

Because Lebanon started attacking them first and they have a right to defend themselves.

  • 1 decade ago

Hezbollah did not start this. Israel did by breaking their ceasefire with hamas by bombing a gaza beach killing 10 civillians. Hezbollah stepped in to help hamas (im not saying Hezbollah and Hamas are good people, but truth is they did not start this, i.e you cannot mention someones criminal record while on trial).

Also, what israel is doing is called "collective punishment" by the UN. Deliberately bombing civillians to sway public opinion against hamas. According to US AUS and UK legislation this is defined as terrorism
