What movie, book, television show, or videogame would you turn into a Broadway musical?

In terms of film, i would like to see "Being John Malkovich" as a musical, with John Malcovich (of course), Idina Menzel, Natasha Richardson and Neil Patrick Harris. It's a delightfully twisted plot that stimulates one to think, fantastic puppetry and potential for music. Any composer could do the score, but it has to be arranged by Sarah Travis and directed by John Doyle (of the revival of Sweeney Todd).

Another film i would want to see transformed into a stage show would be "Rasputin" (with Alan Rickman). The role of Rasputin should be played by Michael Cerveris, Marin Mazzie as the Tsarina, Mark Jacoby as the Tsar, and James Cameron Mitchell as Prince Fillipov (the assassin). I would want the tandem of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty to create the score for this one, their expertise in creating mood music for specific localized sounds is amazing (Ragtime, Once on this Island) any director would be fine for this project.

As for books, i would want to see "The Solitaire Mystery" by Jostein Gaarder translated into a stage show. The boy should be a new actor, around 11. The father should be played by either Mandy Patinkin or Peter Friedman, the mother they go to Rome to save should be played by Uma Thurman or Maria Friedman, This one is strictly for Sondheim or another who has the same vision and sound. Again, any director is fine, but a number with Cirque de Soliel wont be out of place in this one where enchanted playing cards fly around over the heads of the audience.

Those are the adaptations i would want to see... Maybe even audition for them too. :D

My first choice would be the movie which is my all time favourite.....The Princess Bride. It is already a fantastically fun movie as well as having all the other elements. Drama hinged with tragedy and has some really funny bits. There is even at least one place where, when I first saw the movie, I thought it was going to burst into song. There would be opportunities to used many different devices especially for the cliff section, and wouldn't you just love to see that sword fight on stage, LIVE!!! You could also use puppets as i am sure you probably would like to Vatican which would add a superb level of depth to the production.

Oh, good question. And good choice. Would the Poseidon Adventure musical be like Avenue Q? Those kinds of puppets? Or an actual puppet show?

I want to see Much Ado About Nothing in musical form. I know it's already a play, but I want Sondheim or Steven Schwartz to musicalize it.

A book that would be a good musical would be Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking-Glass. It's already a Disney movie, but that's crap. I want to see it onstage, with COLOR, and I want to hear more and better music.

I would love to see the movie "Mean Girls" as a musical. I really think they could have fun with those characters and make a really great comedy.

"50 First Dates" would also make a really cute musical. Another Sandler and Barrymore original to hit the stage!

My favorite movie is "The Shawshank Redemption" and it would be tough to turn that into a musical, but I think it would be a great drama. It would have action and a lot of emotion making it one of the those shows you ponder and digest before talking about at lightening speed with your friends.

Movies-Anastasia(come on people, A Rumor in St. Petersburg simply screams for staging)

TV shows- 24( lol I can see it now!too much fun)

someone said 'dancer in the dark', and i'd like to second that one. it's already a musical movie, but the possibilities would be endless on stage. just think of the song in the factory. bjork would have to star though, because i don't think anyone else could do it like she did. but i think i remember something like she vowed she would never act again because that movie made her so depressed. great movie. i bawled for 20 minutes straight through the end of the movie the first time i saw it. the plot is genious....i want to watch it again now!

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events would be excellent as a musical.

The Count of Monte Cristo. It has a wonderful plot and the Hero/Villan would be great in a musical.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That would make an interesting stage show.

Jaws, Last House on the Left, or possibly Final Fantasy X. Or a singing Kratos would be great as well. (or at least entertaining....)
