What's your favorite romance novel?

Update:

I like Jane Austen's books--all of them, because she was really pretty funny about the world she lived in, and how men and women interacted. Although most people don't think of them as "romance novels", I also liked "Age of Innocence", and most Edith Wharton novels, for the same reasons.

I prefer humorous novels, and usually contemporary ones, if I want something to read for entertainment. The funniest one I've read in a while is "He Loves Lucy".

I also love Jane Austen, especially Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion.

The only other "romance" novels I've read are by Georgette Heyer. She's along the lines of JA (most of the books are regency) and has a similar sense of humor and love of absurd people. My favorites by GH are Venetia, Cotillion, Fredrica and The Grand Sophy.

Pretty much anything by Nora Roberts (she also writes as J.D. Robb), and Bertrice Small. Bertrice does a lot of historical romance, so if you're into England, Ireland, and Scotland's history, you'll probably like her as well. She's got a whole saga that starts out around 1550 and ends in the 1700's, when the main heroine of the first and second books has a great-granddaughter who moves to America.

I loved 'Dark Champion' by Kinley Macgregor. The hero doesn't let his tragic past stand in his way.And the heroine is his match in every way.All those details about the Crusades and the fictional 'Brotherhood of Sword' formed by the prisoners captured by the Saracens are interesting.

The hero, Stryder of Blackmoor, and the heroine, Rowena de Vitry, are not only both opposed to marriage, but also to each other's beliefs. Because of his past, Stryder detests poets/troubadours whose only purpose is to sing of courtly love. Because of her past, Rowena detests knights, blood shed, and war - she is the peace loving, anti-war protestor. Hence, they detest each other.
