At the and of the 30th day you would be paying

    2^29 = 536870912 pennies, that is $5 368 709.12.

The total pay in that month is double this amount minus 1 penny,

    $10 737 418.23

    Nice monthly pay!

That would depend on the length of the first month. One month and 30 days.... OH! OOOOH! You mean One Month OR 30 Days! Ok, now I got it.

    :)

    Well:

    day 01 = 1 penny

    day 02 = 2 penny

    day 03 = 4 penny

    day 04 = 8 penny

    day 05 = 16 penny

    day 06 = 32 penny

    day 07 = 64 penny

    day 08 = 128 penny

    day 09 = 256 penny

    day 10 = 512

    day 20 = 524,288

    notice anything?????

It's 2 to the power of one minus days (or 2 ^ (days - 1))

    Therefore, it's 2 ^ 29

    or...

    536,870,912 pennies, or $5,368,709.12

The answer is 2^(n-1) where n is the number of days employed.

    On day 1 this is 2^(1-1) = 2^0 = 1

    On day 2 this is 2^(2-1) = 2^1 = 2

    On day 3 this is 2^(3-1) = 2^2 = 4

    so on day 30 this would be 2^(30-1) = 2^29 = 536870912 pennies

    or $5,368,709.12

The total amount of cash you will have paid at the end of 30 days is $10,737,418.23 exactly. The amount paid on the last day is $5,368,709.12 exactly. And this is why you should be wary of anyone who asks you to pay them an exponential amount of cash.

This is a geometric sequence. (1,2,4,8,.....) with 30 terms. Use the sum formula, which is G_1 (1-r^n) divided by 1-r. So,

    1(1-2^30)

    -------------

    -1, which is

    1073741823 cents, or $10737418.23
