xp installation bungle? need help?
I have 2 physical drives c: and g: After a crash I installed win2000 on c: I tried to upgrade 2000 to xp, but did not have upgrade cd. It installed xp on drive g: dual boot.. I got upgrade disc and reinstalled xp. It does not dual boot now , goes directly to xp. I would like to get rid of one of the operating systems that are not needed but I am not sure where the new installation went to c: or g: How can I tell? Thank you in advance for any help.

Physical unplug the G drive and boot the PC. At that point you will know whether you are running from C or G. If it boots fine without the G drive present, you can format the G drive and continue to run Windows XP from C.
If it does not boot right, reinstall XP without the G drive present. Then put G back and reformat it. Continue running XP off the C drive.

If win2000 was installled on C, then the upgrade verson of winXP was probably also installed on C. The version you installed on G is probably also still there, so you could probably delete either one and still be fine. You can always reformat both drives and then start the installation again.

If it were me and I didn't care about anything on the hard drives, I would do a fresh install on C:\ of XP. Once that was done I would go into disk management and format G:\.

go to Start
Click on Run
Type in MSConfig and press enter
switch to the BOOT.INI tab
Default=Multi(0)Disk(0)...
For the Disk 0=Master Drive 1=Secondary (slave) drive.
