  • Winlogon.exe slowing down boot on win2000 computer?

My old computer,Pentium 3, 512 ram just got upgraded to Windows 2000 (I know ,but it is the only OS I had ). Upon booting up my task manager shows winlogon.exe process taking up a huge amount of resources and time. It can be up to 2 minutes before it will finally end. I am not running a network or have multiple users. I searched the net and came across someone who said if I had more than one winlogon.exe that it was probably a virus or similar. I ran AVG, Spybot and Adaware and they can not find any problem. I searched for winlogon.exe and found it in three places

    C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386----181,008 bytes

    C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistibution\Download\1ecef9.......etc---186,640 bytes

    C:\WINNT\system32----186,640 bytes

Could any of these be a problem?

Any suggestions on how to speed up boot time. It sure sounds hard on my hard drive?

    Thank you
